Art Opening with Matthew Sage

September 8 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for an opening reception of prepositions, a new exhibit with Matthew Sage.

ARTIST STATEMENT: A preposition is a unit of language that puts two (or more) nouns in proximity, either in time, in space, or both. Above, below, before, after, within, without. By repurposing materials left behind by the former occupant of the 2.5 acre farm my family purchased and began renovating in Berthoud, Colorado in 2021, this work is a reflection of many proximities; the natural and the mechanized, Wilderness and Industry, the domestic and the exotic. Early sketches of a long term engagement with agrarian life/work as a longform artistic practice. These drawings, sculptures, and sound works are both representational and abstract interpretations of these processes. An excavation of landscape and history, a self-discovery as made through proximity.

ARTIST BIO: Matthew Sage is an artist, musician, and educator. Born and raised in Fort Collins, he moved to Chicago in 2014 where he received his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has since moved back to the Front Range.  His latest album, Paradise Crick, was released on RVNG intl records; his music has been featured on Pitchfork and NPR. He has shown artworks, both solo and collaboratively, at many galleries and institutions including The Whitney, MoMa, MoMa PS1, The Art Institute of Chicago, and Hyde Park Art Center. He operates an intermedia publishing house, Cached.Media, and teaches in the Art Department at Colorado State University.
