First Friday at the Publick House

March 1 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us at the Publick House for a photography exhibit with Erik Wangsvick.
“In Beauty, I Saw Noise” is the first all photography show from
interdisciplinary artist Erik Wangsvick (WRECKED/SKETCHES).
Wangsvick approaches photography from a background of extensive
experimentation in abstract modes of expression across other mediums,
ranging from painting to sound. From this perspective, he uses the
photographic medium and the camera as a tool for observing, framing,
and capturing often mundane, yet peculiar moments. These photographs
emphasize a dialog between formal elements, atmospheric qualities, and
aesthetic signifiers to evoke a contemplative state in the viewer. The
work highlights familiar scenes and objects to create an uncanny
feeling akin to those moments which make us stop and wonder, “Is there
more to what I am looking at?” And surely, there is.
Wangsvick received an MFA with honors from Pratt Institute in 2019. He
received a BFA with a double concentration in Sculpture and Painting
with a minor in Art History from Colorado State University in 2011.
They currently reside in Denver, CO.
In motion, I looked for stillness.
In stillness, I saw noise (myself).
In noise, I saw beauty (you).
In beauty, I saw noise.
