Nia’s Rescue Box Book Release

November 6, 2023 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Join us to celebrate the release of a new picture book Nia's Rescue Box, about food rescues inspired by Vindeket Food, writen by Gina Soldano-Herrle.

Ashamed of her newfound food insecurity, Nia leaves the local food rescue with an empty box. Afterward, when confronted with the reality of food waste, she reconsiders accepting help by embracing the power she already has within herself.

Gina Soldano-Herrle wrote Nia's Rescue Box based on her experience as a service participant with Vindeket Foods, a food rescue in Fort Collins, Colorado. A professional ghostwriter since 2019, her passion has always been books of every sort. With Nia's Rescue Box, a picture book illustrated with mixed media by Abi Joy Eaton, she hopes to spread the story of food rescues like Vindeket in the hopes of starting a larger conversation around food waste and hunger in our communities.

Gina lives in Ohio with her family at the moment, though, she has lived in Fort Collins off and on since 2015.

Abi Joy Eaton is a professional artist specializing in mixed-media painting and illustration. Inspired by nature, the wonder of children, and the mysteries of life, she works in her backyard art studio, where she also teaches classes. She lives with her husband and three children in Colorado.

You can expect a reading of Nia's Rescue Box followed by time to color and craft your own box with the author and illustrator. Attendees will be given small boxes, crayons, paper, and child-safe scissors to fill their boxes with whatever items they want to create.
