September 29 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Wish You Were Here:
Poetry Reading and Postcard Making Workshop
September Residents at Wolverine Farm Publick House share how postcards enriched their practice as a writer, an artist and a reader. In addition, art supplies will be on hand for the audience to create postcards with September residents to use in their art practice.
Brad Vogler, Writer-in-Residence, recently finished A Viewing Space, a collaborative poetry/photography/postcard book project with three poets from across the country. He will share the inspiration, creative process and read poetry from this project. Vogler will give away postcards from A Viewing Space and share the writing prompt that inspired his book.
Maker-in-Residence Anna Schneider read Vogler’s A Viewing Space and will share a series of 5 X 7 postcard paintings on canvas board inspired by phrases and words from Vogler’s book. Her abstract oil and acrylic paintings are heavy with texture. She will give a short demonstration on palette knife techniques and examples of applying and mixing paints, which participants can use to make postcards.
Reader-in-Residence Kathleen Willard will read aloud of Sabine & Griffin, a book written entirely in collage postcards and letters. Her hope is to inspire writers to create their own handmade book in this vein. Art materials will be on hand for the audience to use. Willard will also share her experience, the instructions and the results of a Poetry Chain Mail Postcard Project.
Postcard artists are invited to share their creations on Wolverine’s Instragram.
